Engaging and supporting our local communities

The Sheringham Shoal & Dudgeon Extensions are hosted by communities across Norfolk.  We work with Norfolk communities to keep you up to date with what to expect and when. This means to be a good neighbour we plan and provide advance information of activities which may impact rural life and routine.

The Sheringham Shoal and Dudgeon Extensions’ community team liaises with Parish Councils, District Councils and Norfolk County Council regularly.  Contact gm_sepdep@equinor.co.uk to answer your community’s questions about our plans.

Community Benefit Funds

So far £2.3m of grants have been distributed to good causes around Norfolk though the Sheringham Shoal and Dudgeon funds.

The Sheringham Shoal Community Fund was established in 2010, since when over 140 community projects across North Norfolk have received grant support.  We work with Norfolk Community Foundation to support renewable energy, marine environment and safety and sustainability for Norfolk community groups.

Since 2018, the Dudgeon Community Fund has supported STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) education initiatives in the Great Yarmouth, North Norfolk and Breckland districts of Norfolk.

Outreach work

The Sheringham Shoal and Dudgeon team regularly meets with community groups, schools and colleges to share the work taking place both onshore and offshore at the Sheringham Shoal and Dudgeon Extensions Project.

Through membership of EEEGR (East of England Energy Group) and East Wind, the community team attends events where they can meet with stakeholders and interact with local supply chain.

Environmental care

Both onshore and offshore environments are impacted by a major development such as the construction of an offshore wind farm.

The Sheringham Shoal and Dudgeon Extensions Project is sensitive to environmental care and protection issues both at sea and on land, and is developing initiatives to provide a number of biodiversity net gains to both the rural and marine environments.

One such initiative will support work to reintroduce a sandwich tern nesting habitat at Loch Ryan.

Windscape – our interactive museum exhibit

Ready to be blown away?  If you want to learn more about offshore wind and how our people convert this to electricity, visit Windscape at Sheringham Museum where wind power comes to life.

Windscape is the recently refurbished Visitor Centre of the Sheringham Shoal and Dudgeon Offshore Wind Farms. Located within the Sheringham Museum, the exhibit allows visitors to connect with the story of wind farms, whilst also learning more about the increasing amount of renewable energy in East Anglia’s energy mix, of which the Sheringham and Shoal and Dudgeon Extension project is a major component.  The Visitor Centre first opened in 2011, since when it has welcomed over 150,000 visitors.

Interactive items, films, touchscreens, dress-up area and innovative graphic displays are designed to help people learn about the transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy, explaining the importance of offshore wind energy in Norfolk over years gone by through to the 21st century.

Although there is an admission charge to Sheringham Museum, Windscape is free to enter and is open from 10:00am – 4:30pm Monday to Saturday, closed on Sundays. For more information visit www.sheringhammuseum.co.uk
